The Room Three Review

8.3 Total Score
Very Good

The Room Three, a physical puzzle game within a beautifully tactile world. It is three-dimensional and splits each stage into a large room. Different from the previous series however, after the completion of a room the player is required to return to a central "hub" to collect the items required to enter the next room. Core concept remains a constant delight and with its rich atmosphere and clever puzzles, The Room Three is engrossing and hard to put down. Gameplay is largely unchanged, utilizing swipescreen gestures to complete actions such as turning keys, flipping switches, etc. The player is also granted a special eyepiece to see special messages and enter the so-called "miniature areas" made from "Null", the central mystical material. The game opens with the player-character sitting on a train. Tendrils suddenly enter the room as the train passes into a tunnel shortly before transferring the player-character into a strange place called the Grey Holm. It is revealed to him that he was transferred to this place by a mysterious person known as "The Craftsman", who also claims the credit of creating puzzles that were in the previous games. He wants to release the Null with help of the player characters. The player-character must gather several prism like structures called "Null Shards", which are parts of the final key called "The Craftsman's key". The player-character will be taken to a special room to use the key and open an exit. The player-character can also collect artifacts that are hidden in the Grey Holm by solving a series of bonus puzzles and use them to unlock three other endings. The Room Three delivers exactly what you’re promised: brooding and beautiful atmosphere with epic-length puzzles to solve. Even as the final chapter draws to a climactic end, the game beckons you to its clutches once more with alternate endings to unlock.
